Master Scuba Diver Program

Project A.W.A.R.E. Specialties

Specialties developed to introduce environmental issues, and encourages understanding of and respect for the aquatic world’s delicate ecosystems.

Underwater Naturalist - This course is designed to be an introduction to the underwater aquatic environment and to help the student diver develop safe and responsible interaction with aquatic life.  The Underwater Naturalist course is to include two open water training dives, which may be conducted in one day.  Training dives may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Cost: $210

Peak Performance Buoyancy - The purpose of the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course is to polish a diver’s buoyancy control beyond the Open Water Diver level. The goal of PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy training is to enhance the student diver diver’s buoyancy control abilities through knowledge development and practical skills practice.  The Peak Performance Buoyancy Course includes two open water training dives which may be conducted in one day. Training dives may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Cost: $210

AWARE - Fish Identification  - This course is designed to introduce divers to the most common families and species of fish found in temperate and tropical waters. Divers learn basic fish identification and scientific surveying techniques. Through an overview of Project AWARE and other preservation and research efforts, such as the REEF Fish Survey Project, divers also learn the importance of personal involvement in aquatic environment conservation.  The AWARE - Fish Identification Diver course includes two open water training dives.  Training dives may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Cost: $210

AWARE Coral Reef Conservation - The AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches divers, snorkelers and nondivers about the vital role coral reefs play in the marine environment and how these ecosystems are currently threatened. The course familiarizes participants with the current state of the world's coral reefs and explains how individuals can help protect the living reef from further decline. A non-diving specialty. Cost: $210

Project AWARE Specialty Program - The Project AWARE Specialty program is designed to familiarize divers and nondivers with the plight of worldwide aquatic ecosystems. It also describes what individuals can do to help protect aquatic resources. A non-diving specialty. Cost: $210

PADI Specialties

Specialties designed to help divers build underwater skills

Diver Propulsion Vehicle - This course is designed to introduce divers to the skills and excitement of using diver propulsion vehicles. The course familiarizes student divers with the knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, potential problems and hazards associated with using DPVs.  The DPV Diver course includes two open water training dives. Cost: $210

Night Diver - This course is designed to be an introduction to night diving and to help the student diver develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to safely participate in night-diving activities.  The Night Diver course is to include three open water training dives. Cost $310

Drift Diver - This course is designed to be an introduction to drift diving and to help the student diver develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary for drift diving.  The Drift Diver course is to include two open water training dives, which may be conducted in one day. Cost: $210

Underwater Hunter - This course is designed to be an introduction to underwater hunting and to help the student diver develop the necessary skills, knowledge and practical techniques to safely participate in underwater hunting.  The Underwater Hunter course is to include two open water training dives, which may be conducted in one day. Cost: $210

Underwater Navigator - This course is designed to be an introduction to underwater navigation and to help the student diver develop the skills and knowledge necessary for use in underwater navigation.  The Underwater Navigator course is to include three open water training dives.Cost $260

Underwater Videographer - This course is designed to introduce student divers to the selection, use and care of underwater videography equipment, and the basic principles of underwater video production.  The Underwater Videographer course includes three open water training dives.  Training dives may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Cost: $210

Underwater Photography - This course is designed to be an introduction to basic underwater photography and to help the student diver develop the skills, knowledge and practical techniques necessary to enjoy this interesting activity.  The Underwater Photographer course is to include two open water training dives, which may be conducted in one day.   Cost: $210

Boat Diver - This course is designed to be an introduction to boat diving and to help the student diver develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary for boat diving.  The Boat Diver course is to include two open water training dives, which may be conducted in one day. Both open water training dives must be conducted from a boat.  Training dives may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Multilevel Diver - This course is designed to be an introduction to multilevel diving and to help the student diver develop the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques.  The Multilevel Diver course is to include two open water training dives, which may be conducted in one day.  The first training dive may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent.Cost: $210

Equipment Specialist - This course is designed to be an introduction to new types of equipment and to familiarize you with the operation and maintenance of equipment.  A non-diving specialty. Cost: $210

Advanced Specialties

Specialties designed for those who are interested in doing a little more planning before their dive.

Enriched Air Diver - This course is designed to qualify recreational divers to use enriched air (“nitrox”) for no stop recreational diving. The program addresses the use of enriched air with 22 percent to 40 percent oxygen, with emphasis on enriched air with 32 and 36 percent oxygen.  Training dives may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Cost $310

Wreck Diver - This course is designed to be an introduction to wreck diving and to help the student diver develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe wreck diving.  The Wreck Diver course is to include four open water training dives, which are to be conducted over at least two days.  Training dives that do not include wreck penetration may be conducted at night for divers who have completed the Night Adventure Dive or the first dive of the PADI Night Diver specialty course, or equivalent. Cost $410

Deep Diver - This course is designed to be an introduction to deep diving and to help you develop the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to safely participate in deep diving activities.  The Deep Diver course is to include four open water training dives, which are to be conducted over at least two days. Cost $410

Search and Recovery Diver -  The Search and Recovery Diver course is to include four open water training dives, which are to be conducted over at least two days. Cost $410

Master Scuba Diver Program

The Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest recreational diver rating in the PADI program, and denotes superior achievement and proficiency. Achieving the Master Scuba Diver rating requires that an individual be certified as:

1. A PADI Divemaster or PADI Assistant Instructor, and must have certification in any five PADI Specialty ratings
OR
2. A PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and a PADI Rescue Diver, with certification in any five PADI Specialty ratings.
